IND vs NZ: India’s lead management staff has been given a much-anticipated break ahead of the team’s white-ball tour of New Zealand. Head Coach, Rahul Dravid’s absence will be headed by veteran batsman VVS Laxman who will be in charge of the tour.
Notably, India’s campaign at the T20 World Cup came to an unprecedented end after the side suffered a humiliating defeat against England in the second semi-final. Dravid will now fly to India instead of travelling alongside the team to New Zealand.
Apart from Dravid, India’s batting and bowling coach have also been granted rest. Hrishikesh Kantikar and Sairaj Bahutule will take up the role of batting and bowling coach respectively.
VVS Laxman had recently completed a couple of successful stints for the senior men’s team when the side toured Zimbabwe and Ireland. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) Chief also led the charge for India’s triumph at the U-19 World Cup in February 2022.
Rahul Dravid to return in Bangladesh series
Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid will return with his national duties for the Bangladesh tour that is scheduled right after the New Zealand series that will conclude on November 30. The Bangladesh tour will kick off with the first ODI on December 4.
Apart from the management staff, senior Indian players have also given rest for the New Zealand tour. Skipper Rohit Sharma and frontline batsmen Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will miss the series and have already started to disperse from Australia whereas the ones playing the New Zealand series will stay.
India’s tour to New Zealand will kickstart on November 18 at Wellington. The first leg of the tour will be a three-match T20I series. Astonishing all-rounder Hardik Pandya will lead India for the T20I series whereas Shikhar Dhawan will take the charge for the ODI series.
