IND vs SL: India seal series against SL 2-0 after winning the second T20I by 5 wickets

IND vs SL: India has sealed the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka after beating the second match by 5 wickets on Saturday at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. With that win, India has won the series by a 2-0 margin with one game left to be played in the series.

A collective bowling performance from Sri Lanka helped them restrict Sri Lanka to just 1125 runs in the first innings. Sri Lankan openers, Vishmi Gunaratne (45 off 50) and Athapaththu (c) (43 off 41) gave the team a stellar start as the duo shared an 87-run partnership for the opening wicket. However, Pooja Vastrajar broke the stand, wickets fell at short intervals and, Sri Lanka couldn’t recover from thereon.

All the other Sri Lanka batters fell for just single-digit scores and, in the end, they were restricted to a below-par score. For India, Deepti Sharma returned with outstanding bowling figures of 2 for 34 in 4 overs. Besides, the likes of Renuka Singh, Radha Yadav, Pooja Vastrakar and Harmanpreet Kaur picked one wicket each.

In reply, India chased down the score in 19.1 overs. Openers, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Varma shared a 30-run partner and gave the team a quickfire start. Shafali, however, got out after scoring 17 runs in 10 balls. Later, Meghana also played a quick cameo of 17 runs in 10 balls.

India lost the third wicket in the form of Smriti Mandhana (39 off 34)in the 11th over but she ensured she gave the team a good start. Harmanreet Kaur then guided the team home with a match-winning 31 off 32 balls, including 2 fours. The third T20 international is slated to be played on Monday at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla.  

IND vs SL Brief Scores: India 127 for 5 (Mandhana 39, Harmanpreet 31*) beat Sri Lanka 125 for 7 (Gunaratne 45, Athapaththu 43) by five wickets
