IND W vs AUS W: India’s women’s team beat Australia in a super over in the second T20I to level the five-match T20I series 1-1 on Sunday at DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.

Australia put in a sensational batting display in the first innings as they managed to notch a formidable score of 187 runs in the first innings.

Mooney continued her fine run as she played an unbeaten knock of 82 runs in 54 balls, including 13 fours. Tahlia McGrath gave her valuable support, amassing 70 runs in 51 deliveries.

For India, Deepti Sharma was the only bowler who could manage to pick a wicket. She returned with bowling figures of 1 for 31 in 4 overs.

In pursuit of the target, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave their team a rollicking start. The duo added 76 runs in just 8.3 overs.

On the fourth ball of the ninth over, Shafali Varma got out of Alana Kings after playing a handy knock of 34 runs in 23 balls. Coming in at number three, J Rodrigues also departed cheaply in the very next over to allow Australia to come back into the game.

At the halfway stage, India had lost two wickets for 81 runs and needed to accelerate. Smriti Mandhana switched gears, thereafter, and exhibited a stellar display of fours and sixes. Harmanpreet Kaur (21 off 22) gave her good support but didn’t look her best.

Smriti Mandhana top scores for India

India was in a pretty good position when Kaur got out at the score of 142 runs on the last ball of the 16th over. But, Smriti Mandhana’s wicket in the very next over shifted the momentum towards Australia, once again.

The southpaw got out after playing a stellar knock of 79 runs in 49 deliveries, including 9 fours and 4 sixes. With 46 needed in the last 24 balls, Richa Ghosh played a stellar knock of 26 runs in 13 balls to help his team take the game till the very last over.

Ghosh played brilliantly but it was down to Devika Vaidya to win the match, in the end. Needing five runs on the final ball, Vaidya made room for herself only to find the gap on the offside and the ball raced away for a four.

IND W vs AUS W Super-Over:

Much to the delight of everyone, the match went into the super over. Richa Ghosh smacked the very first ball into the stands for a six. Mandhana then smashed four, six, and three runs on the final ball to help India amass 20 runs from the over.

Needing 21 in the super over, Healy sent the first ball for a four, followed by a single and Gardner getting out caught at long off. The last two balls went for a four and a six but, still, Australia fell 5 runs short of the target. With that, Australia lost its first T20 game in the year 2022.
