IND-W vs ENG-W: India’s women’s cricket team created history on Thursday after beating England by 88 runs in the second ODI and winning their first-ever ODI series win against England in England since 1999. After winning the first ODI, India registered a second consecutive win on Thursday.
Riding on a sensational knock from Harmanpreet Kaur, India notched a massive score of 333 runs in the first innings. Smriti Mandhana (40) and Yastika Bhatia (26) gave the team a decent start but it was the skipper who added much-needed momentum into the innings.
She joined hands with Harleen Deol and added 111 runs for the fourth wicket. Deol got out in the 40th over after playing a handy knock of 58 runs in 72 balls. But it was just Harmanpreet Kaur’s show, thereafter.
India scored 121 runs in the last 10 overs and Harmanpreet Kur did most of the damage. She scored a sensational match-winning ton and also record the highest-ever individual score by an Indian women batter in ODIs.
Kaur played an unbeaten knock of 143 runs in 111 balls, including 18 fours and 4 sixes. Thanks to her ton, India managed to score a daunting 333-run total in the first innings.
In reply, England could only manage to score 245 runs in the second innings. The Indian bowling attack was right on the money from the start itself. Renuka Singh sent the likes of Lamb (15) and Dunkley (1) pretty early in their innings, while Tammy Beaumont, unfortunately, got run out after scoring just 6 runs in 8 balls.
Alice Capsey (39), Wyatt (65), and Amy Jones (39) made vital contributions but they needed a Harmanpreet Kaur-like inning, which never came. The pressure of scoring runs at a great pace was always on mind and, thus, wickets kept falling.
For India, once again, it was Renuka Singh who did the bulk of the damage. She returned with outstanding figures of 4 for 57 runs in 10 overs, while the veteran Goswami conceded 31 runs in 7 overs.
IND-W vs ENG-W Brief Scores: India 333 for 5 (Harmanpreet 143*, Deol 58) beat England 245 (Wyatt 65, Renuka 4-57) by 88 runs
