IND-W vs ENG-W: India’s Women’s Cricket Team put in a sensational performance against England in the semi-final of the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Saturday. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. beat England by 4 runs to book their place in the final and assure themselves of a medal at the event.
Smriti Mandhana provided India with a sensational start to the innings as the Women in Blue put on a 76-run partnership for the opening wicket inside just 8 overs. Smriti was the first one to depart but not before scoring a vital knock of 61 runs in 32 balls.
Her partner, Shafali Varma, however, struggled to hit the straps as she could only score 15 runs in 17 deliveries. India’s scoring rate took a beating as England came back with quick wickets. Skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur got out just when she looked to change gears. She departed on 20 off 20 deliveries.
However, a brilliant unbeaten knock of 44 runs in 31 balls helped India reach a pretty good score of 164 runs at the end of the first innings. In pursuit of the run-chase, Dunkley and Wyatt started off strongly, hammering the likes of Renuka Singh and Meghna Singh with ease.
England had scored 28 runs inside the first three overs. Deepti Sharma, eventually, had Dunkley (19) leg before on the last ball of the third over. Wyatt, however, continued finding boundaries and kept the team on the hunt. Alice Capsey got run-out in the midst of that, while Sneh Rana had Wyatt bowled on the last ball of the ninth over to bring India back into the game.
Unfortunately, for England, the likes of Natalie Sciver (41 off 43) and Amy Jones (31 off 24) also got run out and things became ever more difficult for England. The match went down to the wire as 13 runs were needed in the final over. Sneh Rana held her nerves and conceded only 9 runs in the over.
IND-W vs ENG-W Brief Scores: India Women 164 for 5 (Mandhana 61, Rodrigues 44*, Kemp 2-22) beat England Women 160 for 6 (Sciver 41, Wyatt 35, Jones 31, Rana 2-28) by four runs
