India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2022: In what turned out to be a mouth-watering clash, Pakistan beat India by 5 wickets to register a win in their first match of the Super Four round in the Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday. Skipper Babar Azam won the toss and invited Rohit Sharma and Men to bat first.
The Indian duo of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul came out to the crease with a clear mindset to go after the bowlers right from the first ball itself. The duo hit shots around the ground as India reached the 50-run mark in the first five overs.
Rohit Sharma was looking good but, once again, failed to convert the start into a big score. Haris Rauf accounted for his wicket in the 6th over, while KL Rahul followed him in the next over itself. However, both of them had done their job. The Man in form, Suryakumar Yadav (13) and Hardik Pandya (0) failed to get going and Rishabh Pant (14) too didn’t make a solid contribution.
India lost momentum in the middle overs but Virat Kohli’s second consecutive half-century helped the team reach a competitive score of 181 runs at the end of the first innings. It was Shadab Khan’s impressive spell of 2 for 31 which brought Pakistan back into the game. He picked the crucial wickets of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul.
In pursuit of the target, Pakistan didn’t make a great start as Babar Azam, once again, got out early for just 14 runs off 10 balls. Fakhar Zaman’s 18-ball 15 inning came to an end in the 9th over. However, M Rizwan, at the other end, was wreaking havoc with the bat. Once again, he stole the show with the ball, smashing India bowlers to all parts of the ground.
The ploy to send M Nawaz at number four proved wonders for the team. He played an outstanding knock of 42 runs in 20 balls and played a major role in the team’s win. Rizwan, on the other hand, smashed 71 runs in just 51 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes.
There was some tension in the last over as the equation came down to 2 needed off 2 balls. However, Iftikhar Ahmed took a brace on the penultimate ball to help the team get across the line in the end.
