Ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the remainder of Asia Cup 2022 after sustaining an injury to his right knee. The Left-Arm Spinner and middle-order batsman tamed his leg in India’s last pool stage fixture of Group A against Hong Kong.
The All-India Selection Committee of the Board of Cricket Control for India (BCCI) immediately set up a meeting to announce Jadeja’s replacement and finalized the name of Axar Patel who has the same attributes to that as Jadeja. Patel will join the Indian contingent at Dubai before their first Super 4 fixture on Sunday against arch-rivals Pakistan or Hong Kong.
Speaking about Jadeja’s injury, a BCCI spokesperson mentioned that Jadeja is under continuous supervision and the apex body is closely monitoring his recovery. Jadeja’s presence is vital in India’s stalwart XI as the next month’s mega T20 World Cup is approaching.
Jadeja had played a strong hand in India’s qualification to the Super 4. He was promoted up the order against Pakistan where he played a crucial knock of 35 runs to take his side through. Though he didn’t bat against Hong Kong, he proved to be the most efficient and bankable bowler for giving just 15 runs in his 4 overs and a wicket.
Meanwhile, Axar Patel had last featured for India in the ODI series against Zimbabwe. Though being expensive in the bowling department, Axar helped India to cruise past Zimbabwe with his splendid batting skills. The stunning left-arm spinner from Gujarat will likely treat this opportunity with utmost importance as India’s T-20 squad will be announced soon.
