Former New Zealand cricketer turned commentator Scott Styris has heaped praise on KKR’s batsman Shubman Gill ahead of clash between MI vs KKR.
Kolkata Knight Riders will play its first match of IPL 2020 against the defending champions Mumbai Indians on September 23 in Abu Dhabi.
Shubman Gill will be expected to be a part of the playing XI in the matchup, in fact, he might open the batting alongside Sunil Narine.
During a show on Star Sports, Styris said, “The big difference though was with some of the other young players around, like Prithvi Shaw or Devdutt Padikkal, these young superstar talents are that they’re allowed to sort of growing into their role.”
“Shubhman Gill, now with the loss of Robin and Gautam Gambhir at KKR, he’s now a leader, the focal point of that batting unit, he is the best batsman of KKR. So, there’s a lot more responsibility on Gill that you don’t see with a lot of those other youngsters and that may be the only thing that holds him down. Just looked great and he has played great, but he has got the extra responsibility that some of those other players don’t,” he added.
Kolkata Knight Riders have had a poor record against the Mumbai Indians, and lost 9 out of the last 10 matches against them. However, this time around, they have the in-form Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins who have already played after the pandemic.
Also that, the young Indian players have been impressive in all the matches of the tournament so far, KKR will also bank on the youngsters.
