Rajasthan Royals created an outstanding record on Sunday after defeating Kings XI Punjab by 4 wickets in Sharjah. They registered the highest-ever successful chase in the history of the Indian Premier League by chasing a massive target of 224 runs.

After winning the toss, skipper Steve Smith decided to bowl first and put the inform Kings XI Punjab to bat. Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul opened the inning and started toying with the Rajasthan bowlers all over the ground. Skipper KL Rahul scored 69 runs while Mayank went on to score his first century of the IPL. In his inning of 106 runs off 50 balls, Agarwal showcased his class by dispatching the balls for 7 sixes and 10 boundaries.

Kings XI Punjab registered the highest score for the first wicket in this season as the opening duo stitched together 183 runs before the first wicket fell.

Nicholas Pooran scampered the side’s inning by hitting three consecutive sixes in the last over and take the total to 223/3 in 20 overs.

Jos Buttler and Steve Smith started the chase for the Rajasthan but lost the first wicket in 2.2 overs. Buttler gave a pitiable catch to Sarfaraz Khan and caused the first blot in the run-chase.

Sanju Samson came into bat and the duo started from where they had left in the last match by punishing the Punjab bowlers all over.

Skipper Smith reached his half century off 26 balls but got out on the other delivery for trying to clear Neesham for a six in the extra cover. Samson carried the entire responsibility and ensured the runs inflow in every over. He score 85 off 42 balls in which he blasted 7 sixes and 4 boundaries in the record chase.

Unfortunately, he got out in the 17th over but Rahul Tewatia had already taken the first gear and carted five sixes off Sheldon Cottrell’s overs.

Tewatia reached his half-century in 30 balls and also eased off the pressure in the target chase in Cottrell’s over. He got out in the 19th over but till that time, the match was already in Rajasthan’s favour.

Tom Curran and Jofra Archer hit the final runs of the match and also recorded the highest-run chase in Sharjah. Rajasthan Royals was the only team which chased the highest total against the Deccan Chargers back in 2008 by chasing 215 runs and win the game.

Sanju Samson again became the Player of the Match for his match-winning inning of 85 runs and also helped the team win two consecutive matches.
