IPL 2021 Final: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final of IPL 2021 on Friday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Prior to the start of the season, not a lot of people predicted CSK to reach the playoffs. However, as fate would have it, the Yellow Army is set to play yet another final on Friday. They are coming into the contest on the back of a four-wicket win over Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 1.
Barring Hazlewood, all the bowlers went for runs. And as a result of that, Delhi Capitals amassed 172 runs in the first innings. The good thing for CSK is that the final will also be played on the same track. CSK bowlers know how the track would behave and one can expect a better bowling performance on Friday.
The last game saw CSK, once again, leaving everyone surprised as they sent Robin Uthappa at number three. It proved to be a masterstroke as Uthappa scored a sensational 63 runs off 44 balls, including 7 fours and 2 sixes. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored yet another half-century and set the foundation for the run-chase. There were a few in the end but MS Dhoni ensured CSK reach home in the end with 2 balls to spare.
Facing them are Kolkata Knight Riders, who are coming into the contest on the back of two consecutive wins in the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 against RCB and DC. They would be brimming with confidence at the moment. A disciplined bowling attack helped them restrict Delhi Capitals to just 135 runs in the first innings. Varun Chakravarthy starred with the ball, picking 2 for 22.
Later Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer denied DC pick early wickets as they shared a 96-run stand for the opening wicket. Venkatesh Iyer scored a half-century, while Gill amassed 46 runs in as many deliveries. However, the match saw a turnaround when both of these guys departed. Wickets fell in a heap and KKR needed 6 runs in the final two balls. Rahul Tripathi smashed a six to Ravi Ashwin on the second last ball of the over to win the game for the KKR in the end.
