After Anrich Nortje tested positive for coronavirus and got barred from training, Delhi Capitals (DC) players have shared concerns over allowing Kagiso Rabada to join the squad. Rabada accompanied Nortje while travelling from South Africa to India. Both were part of the recent South Africa series against Pakistan.
“Yes, Rabada was there in our net session last evening. We were wondering why Nortje didn’t turn up for practice. Then we heard that his 2nd Covid test report was yet to come so he wasn’t allowed. But it comes to our mind that Rabada was accompanying him all along,” a senior Delhi Capitals player shared his concern on the condition of anonymity.
Another young DC player also confirmed Rabada’s presence, saying he was very much there during the practice and had greeted each other on the field. “We said hello to each other. He seemed to be fine and we heard that his Covid reports were negative.”
On Wednesday, DC pacer Anrich Nortje tested positive for COVID-19. He totals the count of DC players testing positive for COVID-19 to two. Earlier, all-rounder Axar Patel also tested positive for the virus, a week ahead of the IPL 2021 opening match. Nortje is currently under quarantine as per the protocols and would continue to do so for at least 10 days.
Kagiso Rabada is asymptomatic as of now and has also returned negative results for the coronavirus test. Though Rabada’s both the test reports turned out negative, it may not be ideal to make him join the side so early. Ideally, the BCCI and DC should have waited for his third report.
Meanwhile, DC has made a fine start to the tournament, having won their first game against Chennai Super Kings. They will play their next game against Rajasthan Royals on Thursday evening.
