IPL 2021 Match 10: On a pitch where most of the teams were struggling to get past the 150-run mark, Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 204 runs in their third game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday. They eventually won the game by 38 runs and thereby take the top spot on the points table with three wins in as many matches.
Glenn Maxwell’s great run with the bat has helped RCB exhibit a strong performance from the start. Skipper Virat Kohli hasn’t yet come to his own, however, Maxwell’s form has made the work easy for de Villiers. After losing Kohli and Rajat Patidar early, Glenn Maxwell joined hands with Devdutt Padikkal to steady the ship. Devdutt Padikkal played well for his 25 off 28 balls before he got out in the 12th over. Glen Maxwell, on the other hand, kept taking the bowlers on.
The flow of runs manyfold when Ab de Villiers arrived as he along with Glenn Maxwell produced a run-fest at Chepauk. The bowlers had no answers to Maxwell and AB de Villiers’ brilliance with the bat. Glenn Maxwell gave the early momentum to the innings as he scored 78 runs off 49 balls, while AB de Villiers finished the innings for them, scoring 76 off just 34 balls, a knock which was laced with 9 fours and three sixes.
In reply, Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana too played in an attacking fashion. While runs were coming as required wicket kept falling at regular intervals. Gill scored 21 off 9 balls, while Rana scored 18 off 11 balls. Rahul Tripathi and Eoin Morgan too tried hard but couldn’t stay for too long.
78 runs needed off the last fours and what followed was a massive over for KKR. Andre Russell smashed three fours and a sixes to Chahal in the seventh over. However, he needed similar overs in the next three as well. He couldn’t do that and KKR in the end fell short of 38 runs.
