M S Dhoni played his 200th match as a skipper for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday. He came out to bat in the 15th over of the innings. CSK, at that time, were well placed at 125 for 4 after 14 overs. However, the CSK skipper could score only one run in five balls in the next over which shifted the momentum of the game. CSK in the end managed 188 runs in 20 overs but won the game by 45 runs.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, M S Dhoni took the blame for playing five four dots in that over and said it could cost them the game on another day.
“Glad we scored 180, I thought we could have got more. The first six balls I played could have cost us in another game. t’s true but when you’re playing, you don’t really want anyone to say he’s unfit. Performance is something that is not guaranteed. I was not guaranteeing performances when I was 24, can’t guarantee when I am 40,” the CSK captain said.
M S Dhoni’s IPL form
M S Dhoni has not had the best start in this edition of IPL considering his individual form. In two matches, the 39-year old has registered only 18 runs at an average of 9.0. He scored 17 runs off 18 balls in that match. He scored 2 fours during his knock before holding out at extra cover off Chetan Sakariya in the 18th over.
Dhoni also talked about his fitness, adding that he doesn’t want anyone pointing fingers at him for fitness reasons.
“Getting old and being fit — those are two difficult things! When you’re playing you don’t want anyone to call you unfit. I have to keep up with younger guys, they run a lot, but it’s always challenging,” said Dhoni.
CSK has now registered 2 wins in 3 games. With that, they have moved to the second position in the points table. They will play their next game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday.
