In what may be one of the biggest news of the year, South African star all-rounder AB de Villiers has divulged his plans to play in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup this year. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player said that he is discussing his plans with national coach Mark Boucher.
The veteran player announced his retirement from international cricket in 2018. But he seems to have only aged like wine considering his current form in the game, despite taking a hiatus. And in view of his scintillating form, the 37-year old is eyeing his comeback in the international circuit through the T20 World Cup.
“We’re lined up to have a chat sometime during the IPL. But yes, we’ve been talking about it already,” de Villiers said about participating in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the post-match conference of the RCB vs KKR game on Sunday.
“Last year, he (Boucher) asked me if I would be interested. I said, ‘absolutely’. And come the end of the IPL, we’ll have a look at where we’re at with regards to my form and my fitness. Also, the situation with his team — he’s got to look at his guys who have been performing well … If there’s no space for me so be it. If I can slot in there, it’ll be fantastic if all those things fall in place,” he added.
On Sunday’s game between RCB and KKR, de Villiers helped RCB clean the clock of KKR by an explosive display with the bat. He scored a brilliant 76 off just 34 balls, a knock laced with 9 fours and three sixes.
AB de Villiers is in a phenomenal form in this season’s IPL. He has been consistent with the bat as well as his acrobatic fielding.
