Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been named skipper of Delhi Capitals ahead of the 14th edition of Indian Premier League.
Regular skipper Shreyas Iyer’s exit from the tournament had already created buzz as to who will lead the Capitals in this season. The franchise also conducted an urgent video-conference for deciding the new skipper for the upcoming season.
After the meeting the franchise released a statement confirming that the 23-year-old will lead the side in the absence of Iyer.
“I would like to wish Shreyas a speedy recovery,” said DC Chairman & Co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi after the news.
“Under Shreyas’ captaincy, our team reached newer heights, and he is going to be missed immensely. In his absence, the franchise has collectively picked Rishabh to lead the team this year. While it has come under unfortunate circumstances, it is a tremendous opportunity for him to grow further. I wish him all the best in his new role.” he concluded.
Pant also reacted on the occasion of his appointment and stated, “Delhi is where I grew up, where I started my IPL journey- to lead the side has been a dream. I feel humbled and honoured.”
Very coincidental that this time around four out of eight teams are being led by wicket-keepers.
