In a big boost for Delhi Capitals, Axar Patel has joined the DC squad after recovering from Covid-19 on Friday.
The 27-year old had tested positive for the virus during the mandatory quarantine period before the start of the tournament. He had entered the bio-bubble of the squad with a negative test report. However, on April 3 he returned a positive result.
Axar Patel then shifted to BCCI’s designated medical facility after showing mild symptoms. He had checked into the hotel of the Delhi Capitals in Mumbai on March 28.
“Smiles and hugs all around as Bapu returned to the DC camp,” the Delhi Capitals tweeted a video of the 27-year-old meeting his teammates. “Aadmi dekh ke hi toh mujhe maza aa raha hai (I’m getting sheer joy just by seeing people),” Patel said in the video.
“It has been really great to come out of quarantine after 20 days and meet my teammates. This is the best moment in my life after my Test debut,” Patel said after coming out of the quarantine.
“I was alone in my room for 20 days and I didn’t have anything to do. I was watching the matches and one good thing was that our team won most of the matches, so I got even more motivated to re-join the side,” he said.
Under BCCI’s COVID-19 protocols, if a person tests positive for COVID-19, then he ought to isolate himself in a designated area outside the bio bubble for at least 10 days. Last week, Delhi Capitals roped in Shams Mulani as the short-term replacement for Axar Patel. However, with the latter being tested negative, Mulani will no longer be part of the group.
Also, the franchise has signed Anirudha Joshi as the replacement for Shreyas Iyer. Delhi Capitals are currently playing well in the tournament. Under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, Delhi has managed to win 3 out of 4 games. They lost the only game against Rajasthan Royals. Delhi Capitals will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next game on Sunday.
Shikhar Dhawan has been their most successful batsman so far. He has scored 231 runs in 4 matches at an average of 57.75.
