Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finally came onto the winning tracks after the openers help them win by 10 wickets against KXIP on Sunday.
CSK became the first team to register a win by 10 wickets in the Dubai International Stadium and also the first team in IPL 2020. MS Dhoni and his men ticked all the boxes against the KL Rahul led the side and registered a confident fetching victory.
Earlier, Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul had won the toss and decided to bat first and put a stiff target in the second innings.
KL Rahul’s successful run-streak continued as he carted CSK bowlers for 7 boundaries and one six in his inning of 63 runs. He is the orange cap holder with 302 runs while Mayank Agarwal is at the third place in the race of orange cap.
KXIP had a good start in the match before Piyush Chawla trapped Mayank Agarwal (26) in the 9th over. Three overs later, Shardul Thakur struck by removing KL Rahul by trapping him behind the wicket. MS Dhoni caught the ball off KL Rahul’s bat and also completed his 100 catches in the IPL.
Nicholas Pooran struck 33 runs off 17 runs and took his team’s score pas 150 runs while Maxwell and Sarfaraz took the team’s total to 178/4 runs in 20 overs.
Shardul Thakur finished with 2/39 as the most successful bowler tonight but the main concern still remained the batting. However, openers Shane Watson and Fa du Plessis defied all the odds today and gave a beautiful start to the side.
CSK played really well in the powerplay and finished with 60 runs after six overs without losing any wicket. Later, the duo showed the prowess of their vast experience, finding boundaries in every over.
They didn’t lose any guard and cleared boundaries with flawless strokes in the match and finally won the game by 10 wickets.
Shane Watson became the player of the match for his 83 runs off 53 balls including 11 boundaries and three sixes in the match. He found his rhythm and would be a huge boost for the side when they meet Kolkata Knight Riders in their next matchup on Wednesday.
