IPL 2021 Match 15: Kolkata Knight Riders lost their third match on the trot after a 18-run loss to Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday. The Knights almost inched victory but the two run-outs due to pressure caused them to lose the match in the end.
On what could have ended on a winning cause for skipper Eoin Morgan, it became more heartening as he was fined by the match-referee.
Morgan was fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate against CSK. This was KKR’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct on minimum over rate offences.
And as per the protocols, skipper of the team indulging in slow-over rate will be fined 12 lakhs from his match fee. If the offence is committed twice then the skipper is fined also fined twice the amount of 12 lakhs while the playing XI pays 25% of its match fee. And in case, the team does that third time, the captain pays INR 30 lakhs and serves a ban of one match, while the playing XI is charged 50 % of their match fee i.e., 12 lakhs.
MS Dhoni was the first skipper to have been charged for maintaining slow-over rate against Delhi Capitals on April 10.
KKR bowlers also conceded 200+ runs against CSK batsmen that saw Faf du Plessis score 95* runs and Ruturaj Gaikwad hit 64 runs off 42 balls.
A day of Typhoon of runs
The bowlers had a miserable day with 400+ runs being scored on a single day, except Deepak Chahar who took 4/17 in his spell. While Lungi Ngidi took 3/28 in the death overs including the wickets of Rahul Tripathi, Dinesh Karthik and Kamalesh Nagarkoti.
Chennai Super Kings won the match by 18 runs and also jumped to the number one spot in the points table. They now have three wins in four matches and will now face Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 25 at Wankhede Stadium.
