The runners-up of the IPL 2020 season, Delhi Capitals will begin their training camp from 30th March 2021. The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League will begin on 9th March 2021. Delhi Capitals have decided to start the camp from 30th March 2021.
As compared to other franchises, Delhi have decided to start training a bit late. The franchise wants to ensure that all the domestic as well as international cricketers get adequate rest and spend time with their families before they enter the bio-secure bubble.
“We intentionally delayed our camp firstly because of the evolving scenario (COVID-19), secondly, compared to last season, a lot of cricket has happened and our players are on the move. So we said let them get some rest and spend time with the family because they are again going to be in the bubble. At the moment we are tentatively planning to get into our bubble on 23rd and so we should be out to start our camp by 30th of the month,” DC CEO, Vinod Bisht said.
Owing to their all-round brilliance, Delhi Capitals managed to reach the finals in the last edition. They, unfortunately, lost to Mumbai Indians in the summit clash. Shreyas Iyer and Co. would be hopeful of winning the season this time around.
In a bid to bolster the squad, DC have made some notable inclusions in Steve Smith, Sam Billings and Umesh Yadav in the mini-auction. When asked about their buys at the auction, DC CEO said that the players were bought as a backup in case an injury happens midway.
“Auction is a big gamble and we turned out to be lucky with bagging Steve and Umesh at that price. We have a good back-up squad now” he added.
