Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has made a rather sharp comment on Rajasthan Royals’ most expensive buy of the IPL 2021. Speaking on Chris Morris, he said that the South African player isn’t worthy of the amount the franchise is paying him for his services.
Morris became the most expensive player in the history of IPL during the mini-auction of the 14th edition of the tournament. This happened after Rajasthan Royals bought him for an amount of INR 16.5 crore in the IPL 2021 auctions. Pietersen said Morris was paid such an amount that he himself wouldn’t have ever paid for. Furthermore, he also said that the all-rounder is not worthy of the value put on him.
“This is going to sound harsh, but he went for a lot more money than I would have ever paid for, to be completely honest. I just don’t think that he’s worth that kind of number. I think there’s pressure on him,” said Pietersen on Star Sports Live Feed Select Dugout.
“He’s not a first choice for the South African side. So, I think we’re expecting too much. There’s too much talk about him. I don’t think he’s the kind of guy that’s going to consistently deliver. I mean this with the greatest deal of respect,” he further said.
“There’s nothing special about what he does, and if he does run-in, he’ll run in for two games. And then he’ll go missing for a few games and it’s not the kind of thing that you should be seeing. He has the attributes,” Pietersen said.
Apart from playing the match-winning knock for RR against Delhi Capitals, Morris hasn’t made any significant contribution to the franchise. The tall and fast all-rounder has leaked a lot of runs in the four games he has played thus far. He has 5 wickets to his name at an average of 27.80.
Rajasthan Royals have lost three of the four games they have played thus far in the competition. Their latest defeat being against Royal Challengers Bangalore, which they lost by 10 wickets. They are currently sitting at the bottom of the points table.
