RCB spinner Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the second leg of the IPL 2021, the franchise confirmed on Monday. The RCB spinner won’t be participating in the second leg due to an injury on his finger. Akash Deep, who plies his trade for the Bangalore state team, has been named as his replacement. He has been a net bowler for RCB for a couple of years now.
“Royal Challengers Bangalore’s all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of the Vivo IPL 2021 due to an impending finger injury,” the IPL franchise said in a statement.
RCB has been on the mission to groom and nurture young players as they are keen to develop and nurture exceptional talents and make a pathway for them to find their way into the IPL. Ahead of the start of the second leg of the tournament, three players namely Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa, Daniel Sams pulled out of the second leg of tournament.
RCB have roped in George Garton, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera as their replacement. Besides, Finn Allen also made himself unavailable for the second half of the tournament and Tim David has been selected as his replacement.
Simon Katich, too, has stepped down from the role of the head coach position. In his absence, Mike Hesson has taken over the role in addition to the existing role of Director of Cricket Operations.
RCB currently sit at the third spot on the points table with 5 wins in 7 matches and 10 points to their name. They will be kick-starting their second leg campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on 20th September 2021.
