Ishant Sharma named in Delhi’s squad for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Indian pacer Ishant Sharma has been named in Delhi’s squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which is scheduled to start in October. The squad will be led by Kolkata Knight Riders batter Nitish Rana.

The side is power packed by several young stars who have featured in IPL. Players like Yash Dhull, Pradeep Sangwan, Ayush Badoni, and Hritik Shokeen will be representing the team.

“The president and secretary have full faith in our senior players and Nitish are one of them. We are confident that the team will do well under his leadership,” joint secretary Rajan Manchanda told PTI.

This tournament will be very important for Ishant Sharma as he has not been in action for a while now, and he has not played a Test since November 2021. This tournament can also bring him an IPL contract if he performs well in the domestic tournament.

Veteran Ishant Sharma comes with rich experience and is now the most experienced player on Delhi’s side. If utilized well,  he can be a key player in Delhi’s team. He can also help Nitish Rana in terms of taking decisions on the field due to his experience.

In 105 Test matches throughout the course of his career, the 34-year-old has taken 311 wickets at an economy rate of 3.15. He has 785 runs scored. In 80 ODIs, he has played, he has collected 115 wickets at a 5.72 economy rate. In terms of his T20I performance, Sharma has played 14 games and claimed 8 wickets.

He last played Test cricket in 2021 in Kanpur against New Zealand. In the match, although he couldn’t take any wickets, but was economical.
