Former Indian women cricket team captain Jhulan Goswami turned 38 on Wednesday. Jhulan Goswami is deemed as the greatest fast bowler in women’s cricket to have represented India on the international stage. She is one of the most reliable women all-rounders of all time.

Hailing from West Bengal, the Chakdaha-born player’s journey from Vivekananda Park nets in Kolkata to the Lord’s cricket ground in London has been no less than an inspiration for the younger generations. She is accredited for the glory of the women’s Indian cricket team and laying the foundation for the budding cricketers of the nation.

Jhulan made her debut in international cricket at the age of 19 in January 2002. Her spectacular skills, readily got her picked up for the longest format of the game in the same month. Both of her debuts were against England. She went on to play 10 Test matches and 182 WODIs, scoring 283 and 1076 runs in the formats, respectively. The 38-year old has played 68 WT20Is amassing 405 runs in the matches before announcing her retirement from the format in 2018.

  4. Goswami is the recipient of the honorable Padma Shri award. She received the award in 2012, becoming the second women cricketer to achieve the honor.

  6. Jhulan was the captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team from 2008–2011.
