England Test skipper Joe Root said that he is ready to put in everything to get a place in England’s T20 team. Root said this looking forward to the T20 World Cup slated to be held in India next year.

Making a cut into England’s T20 squad might not be an easy task due to the the cutthroat competition among all the cricketers.

Root has had a successful last two home series against West Indies and Pakistan and now he returns to Yorkshire for the Vitality T20 Blast. The 29-year-old was due to play against Nottinghamshire but the rain washed away the game.

“I’m not giving up on it at all, but I’m quite realistic in terms of where I am within the shake-up of things at the moment. I want England to do well. I want us to go to World Cups and win. If I’m not in the best eleven or the best squad, so be it,” Root was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.

“I’ll support whoever’s involved all the way through. I know how hard selection is, and if there are better options than me that”s part of international sport. I’m fully aware of that. But I’ll certainly do everything I can with the limited opportunities I will have to force a case,” he added.

Root last played a T20I game against Pakistan in May 2019 and he scored 47 runs off 42 balls in that match. Since then, he hasn’t represented England in T20 format.

He has played 146 matches in ODI and scored 5922 runs at an average of 51.05 while he averages 47.99 in Test cricket with 7823 runs in 97 matches.

The Yorkshire batsman hasn’t played much T20I cricket, scoring 893 runs in 32 matches at an average of 35.72.
