KAF vs CS: The second match between Kandy Falcons take on Colombo Stars on Tuesday saw the former winning the match by a huge margin of 109 runs. Riding on a sensational ton by Andre Fletcher, Kandy Falcons notched a mammoth score of 199 runs in the first innings.
Fletcher and Nissanka made an outstanding start to their campaign as the duo stitched a massive 156-run partnership for the opening wicket. Nissanka smashed 71 runs in just 41 balls, including 8 fours and 2 sixes.
Andre Fletcher too was equally destructive. He went on to score a notch a century and it came off in just 67 balls at a strike rate of 152. His knock was laced with 11 fours and 3 sixes. Carlos Brathwaite got only 13 balls to face and he smashed 20 runs from that.
Colombo Stars collapse like dominos
In reply, Colombo Stars were bowled out for a paltry 90 runs. Niroshan Dickwella (5 off 4) and Angelo Mathews (26 off 23) couldn’t get the team off to a great start. Middle-order comprising Asalanka (1), Bopara (2), Chandimal (9), Howell (0) and Prasanna (0) all got out in single-digit scores as the Stars had lost 7 wickets for just 50 runs inside the first half of the innings.
Dominic Drakes (18 off 22) and Keemo Paul (22 off 15) added a few boundaries to their tally but it was never going to be enough in the overall picture.
For Kandy Falcons’ bowling unit, it was the skipper, Wanindu Hasaranga, who led from the front. He made 4 scalps for just 14 runs in 3 overs. Falcons will play next against Galle Gladiators on Wednesday, while Stars will play on Thursday against Dambulla Giants.
