KAF vs GG: Kandy Falcons continue to impress one and all as they notched their second consecutive win on Wednesday after beating Galle Gladiators by 5 wickets. The Gladiators could only muster 121 runs in their 20 overs in the first innings, thanks to a sensational bowling display from C Brathwaite.

The West Indies all-rounder ran through Gladiators’ top order as he claimed four wickets for just 14 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Zahoor Khan was also brilliant for his figures of 2 for 26 in 4 overs.

Braithwaite paralyzes the batting line-up of Gladiators

Thanks to Brathwaite’s opening spell, the Gladiators were reeling at 19 for 4 in just 3.3 overs. Kusal Mendis (14 off 11) was Brathwaite’s three scalps of the day, which led to the Gladiators losing half of their side for just 28 runs on the board.

Subasingha and Imad Wasim rescued the ship by stitching a handy 65-run partnership for the 6th wicket. Zahoor Khan broke the partnership by sending Imad Wasim (34 off 39) back to the hut.

Movin Subhasingha played a handy knock of 40 runs in just 38 balls, however, a 121-run total was never going to be enough. Pathum Nissanka (22 off 21) and Andre Fletcher (20 off 14) gave the team a decent start in the second innings. Ashen Bandara (3) and Fabien Allan (10) lost their wickets cheaply but Kamindu Mendis’ knock of 44 runs in 34 balls meant Kandy Falcons chased down the target pretty easily in just 15 overs.

With this win, Kandy Falcons now find themselves at the top of the points table with 2 wins in as many matches. On the other hand, the Galle Gladiators are yet to open their account in the tournament.

KAF vs GG Brief Scores: Kandy Falcons (Kamindu Mendis 44, Pathum Nissanka 22; Nuwan Pradeep 34-2) beat Galle Gladiators (Movin Subasingha 40, Imad Wasim 34; Carlos Brathwaite 14-4, Zahoor Khan 26-2) by 5 wickets
