Kings XI Punjab finally registered their second victory of IPL 13 after coming out of their losing streak in Sharjah on Thursday. Skipper KL Rahul continued to do the talking with the bat and helped pull off a victory against the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 8 wickets.

Surprisingly, both their victory have come against the RCB this season although they don’t have the chance of making into the playoffs.

Set a target of 172 runs, KXIP openers Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul ensured a good start in the powerplay and added 78 runs for the first wicket.

Chris Gayle played his first match of the season and looked in a great touch with the bat as he 53 runs off 45 balls. His inning included five sixes and one boundary before getting run out on the second last ball.

Rahul praised the 41-year-old for his knock in the game and his consistent hunger for runs despite falling ill in the UAE.

“He’s (Gayle) not been feeling well in the last couple of weeks. But, he is hungry even at 41. He always wanted to play from the first day. He was training hard, he wanted to be out on the park.” Rahul said.

The winning skipper also put light on the team’s performance this season despite putting in efforts and losing matches.

We are a far better side than where we are in the points table. It just got too close for comfort, happy that we crossed the line. As a group, we have been disappointing. It can get frustrating. Our skills were good, but we didn’t capitalize on the big moments” he said.

Kings XI Punjab already have no chance of qualifying for the playoffs this season but they still have certain things to prove as a team. They will next face Mumbai Indians in Dubai International Stadium on October 18.
