Shah rukh Khan owned T20 franchise Knight Riders is all set to expand its reach globally by investing in USA’s Major League Cricket. With a vision to play a “broad role”, Knight Riders Group will be investing in a team for the tournament set to begin in 2022.
The group already owns two franchises globally namely: Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL and Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League.
As per the sources, the franchise is expected to own a major stake in the inaugural MLB, providing the much-needed support to the tournament.
Knight Riders group is jointly owned by Bollywood actors Juhi Chawla,, her husband Jay Mehta and Shahrukh Khan who have seemed to show their passion for game over the years.
The group will also be responsible in playing the role of “consultant” in order to run the tournament comprising of six teams.
“When they invited us, we said we want to take a deep dive into this, and not just have a short-term outlook,” Mysore told ESPNcricinfo.
“So they see us as a consultant in many ways, apart from being a big part of the league. They want us to play a very broad role, to help and assist them with all aspects of cricket in the US” he added.
The American Cricket Enterprise set an invitation to the Knight Riders group to sign with them as developing partner of T20 League in America. Venky Mysore, the CEO and Managing director of the Knight Riders group called the agreement with the ACE as “a long-term investment in American cricket”.
