Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Sunday postponed the Lanka Premier League indefinitely, owing to the economic crisis in the country. Lanka Premier League was to begin on August 1 and run until August 21, 2022. For the unversed, the Island nation is currently in a huge financial crisis. It became a major talking point after the country’s president left the island on a military jet.

“This decision was taken by the SLC, following a request made by the Innovative Production Group FZE (IPG), the Rights Holder of the tournament, which cited the current ‘economic situation,’ in the country, as not conducive to hosting the tournament,” Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said in a statement.

Lanka Premier League postponed indefinitely

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) hasn’t announced when the league will get under through later. Interestingly, the Island nation recently hosted Australia for a month-long series. Currently, they are playing a two-match Test series against Pakistan at home.

Due to the economic unrest in the country, the upcoming Asia Cup, which Sri Lanka was to host, has now found a new host nation. Asia Cup 2022 will take place in the UAE.

SL vs PAK 2nd Test shifted to Galle

On Sunday, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board moved the second Test against Pakistan from Colombo to Galle due to political unrest.

“SLC arrived at this decision in order to ease out the logistical challenges faced by our stakeholders in carrying out tour-related operations, due to the prevailing situation in the country,” Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.

Currently, the first Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan is underway. Batting first, Pakistan were bundled out for 218 runs on the board. Babar Azam starred with the bat, scoring 119 runs off 244 balls. In reply, Sri Lanka lost 1 wicket for 36 runs at stumps on Day 2.
