Bad news came for Mumbai Indians fans as the Lasith Malinga, the most successful pacer of the team expected to miss the entire tournament which is slated to be played from September 19th to November 19th.

Malinga, who was playing for Mumbai Indians from 2009 has been the most reliable blower and also helped Mumbai Indians win the last IPL season by blowing the final over and defended 8 runs against Chennai Super King which helped MI win the title for the fourth time.

The entire tournament will be played in UAE and all the players and the management will be under the Bio Bubble because of the pandemic situation. Mumbai Indians players already left for Dubai and Malinga was expected to join them after few days.

But the Malinga decided to opt-out from the tournament, as his father has been ill and may go through many surgeries for which Malinga wants to be by his side in this tough time. And this will be a big setback for the defending champions.

The 37-year-old has been one of the most valuable players in the IPL as he is the highest wicket-takers with 170 wickets. And he is on number two in T20s list which is led by Dwayne Bravo.

Malinga has been the part of MI from 2009 and since then the franchise keeps retaining him till 2017. In 2018 the acted as a bowling mentor for the team but the franchise decided to retain him again, so they spend 2 crores on him which turned out to be a game-winning investment.

Mumbai have so many options with them when it comes to bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Trent Boult, Mitchell McClenaghan, Dhawal Kulkarni, and allrounders Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard, but as the Malinga has the most experience amongst them, the team is going to miss him the most in the death overs when the crowd’s pressure is at its peak.
