Dambulla Viiking continued their winning streak after handing a four-wicket defeat to Galle Gladiators on Wednesday. Viiking’s batsmen rose to the occasion yet another time winning breezing past Gladiators to their fifth win of the league.
Afghanistan’s Samiullah Shinwari blasted 46* off 20 balls as he took charged down the Gladiators’ bowlers in the final overs of the game. His inning consisted a half-a-dozen of boundaries and a couple of sixes including the last one in the nail-biting final over.
Earlier, Viiking’s skipper Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to bowl first at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota.
Gladiators had a smoky start with Danushka Gunathilaka smacking bundle of boundaries, while on the other hand, Ahsan Ali got out on just one run.
Gladiators’ skipper Bhanuka Rajapaksa scoring a quickfire 31 off 18 balls, followed by Shehan Jayasuriya’s 39 runs. Gladiators reached 168/7 in 20 overs with three Viiking bowlers R Mendis, Shanaka and Rajitha picking up two wickets each.
Chasing a total of 169 runs, Viiking lost the opener, Paul Stirling, for a duck with Mohammad Amir striking in his very first ball. The other end saw Niroshan Dickwella and Angelo Perera scored 38 and 45 runs respectively and also stitched 53-run partnership.
Samiullah Shinwari and Ramesh Mendis took the side home and helped the side sail to 174/6 and clinch the game by 4 wickets.
Dambulla Viiking will next face Colombo Kings in their next group stage match on December 11 before the semi-final round from December 13.
