Ace Momentum Proteas batter Mignon du Preez has announced her retirement from professional international cricket with immediate effect on Friday, December 9. The veteran South African player as she sparked her career with notable contributions over the past 15 years.

Mignon had already hinted towards her retirement and parted ways from Test and ODI cricket after the conclusion of the Women’s World Cup 2022. Today, the stunning batter has also been called off from T20I cricket and marked the end of an impressive era of an exquisite batting career for South Africa.

In wake of the upcoming T20 World Cup in South Africa 2023, it was expected that Mignon will lead the contingent towards their maiden triumphant campaign. However, the sudden decision by the star has put Cricket South Africa in jeopardy.

Mignon Du Preez leaves behind an illustrious career

Mignon Du Preez has represented the South African national team in a total of 269 matches. She has donned the Proteas jersey in 154 matches and scored 3760 runs with an average of 33 whereas she has scored 1805 runs in 114 T-20I matches with an average of 21. In the only test match of her career, the middle-order batter scored 119 runs.

Addressing the media, Mignon du Preez was emotional while announcing her decision. She stated that it has been an honour to represent the national side and make her contribution. She further added by saying that it has been a glorious journey and she will miss playing for the national team.

Mignon Du Preez made her debut for the South African team on 22 January 2007 against England. Her noteworthy contribution to the side will always be cherished as all the fans wish her the best regards for the upcoming vital innings of her life.
