Molly Strano becomes first player to take 100 wickets in WBBL

Melbourne Renegades bowler Molly Strano scripted a record in the history of WBBL by taking 100 wickets on Sunday. The bowling all rounder reached the feat playing against the Melbourne Stars where she finished with 2/38 in four overs.

Strano bowled Stars opener Elyse Villani (17 runs) and middle-order batter Alana King and helped restrict them on 165/8 in 20 overs.

Meg Lanning (41) and Mignon Du Perez (40) were the top-scorers and the duo stitched a 52-run partnership. Elly Hayward inflicted the most damage by taking 4/16 in her spell of four overs. The game went till Super Over after Renegades were restricted to 165/7 in 20 overs with Courtney Webb top-scoring with an unbeaten 54 runs.

Sophie Day and Holly Ferling took down four of Renegades’ batters by sharing a couple of wickets each among them.

Renegades went on to win the game in the Super Over and also registered their second win of the season and a bottom place in the points table.

Molly Strano is now the highest wicket-taker in the league, followed by Jess Jonassen (85 wickets) and Sarah Aley (84 wickets).
