Former South African bowler Morne Morkel wants veteran batter Faf du Plessis to be taken into consideration for the next T20 World Cup in Australia

The former captain is now out of consideration for South African cricket due to the lack of a central contract. Plessis was the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s captain in IPL 2022. The 37-year-old scored 468 runs at a strike rate of 127.52 to lead his team to the playoffs. Morkel has demanded that he Faf be selected for the World Cup owing his spectacular performance with the bat.

Graeme Smith also vouched for Faf du Plessis

It should be noted that Graeme Smith had also lobbied for du Plessis to be included in the forthcoming ICC mega event. Smith was a former Proteas captain. With Plessis’s proficiency and experience in the format, the seasoned batter can be a valuable addition to the squad.

“You want all your big-name players to play and Faf is still playing well at the age of 37. He is still playing well, moving well in the field and he has done exceptionally well for RCB (in the IPL). I would like to see those experienced players on the side. That is up to them (CSA) to work out, but I am definitely a big fan of it,” Morkel said at an event in Melbourne.

The former right-arm quick amassed more than 500 wickets for South Africa in all forms. He opined that Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje’s current fast bowling attack will benefit from bowling in Australian conditions. He claimed that despite the Proteas’ balanced lineup, the game was too close to call in this format.

“I honestly believe they have an attack that is going to suit these conditions well. Kagiso Rabada is a world-class performer, Anrich Nortje did very well at the IPL, and (Tabraiz)  Shamsi is a quality spinner. I do believe that it is a well-balanced squad, and in T20 cricket these days, the teams are so close,” the former pacer added.
