MR vs BH: Melbourne Renegades registered a 4-wicket win over Brisbane Heat in the 10th match of the Big Bash League 2022 on Wednesday at the Simonds Stadium in Geelong. The Renegades put in an inspired bowling performance as they restricted Brisbane Heat to just 137 runs in the first innings.
Tom Rogers exhibited a sensational display of bowling as he picked up four wickets for just 23 runs in his quota of four overs. Brisbane Heat’s opening pair of Max Bryant (5 off 8) and Munro (8) departed pretty early.
Renshaw (29) and Billings (25) tried to steady the ship but Rogers accounted for the wicket of both of them. Rogers then had Whiteley in the 15th over to leave the team in trouble at 96 for 5.
However, a valiant knock of 45 runs in 30 deliveries helped the Brisbane Heat reach 137 runs at the end of the first innings. Apart from Rogers, Akeal Hosein also bowled brilliantly for the Renegades as he claimed 3 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs.
Russell scores a match-winning half-century
In reply, the Renegades made the worst possible start. Michael Neser produced a dream spell with the ball. He sent Harper back to the hut on the very first ball of the game. After conceding 5 runs in his next four balls, Neser ended his over with another wicket of Nic Maddinson (2).
He then came back to bowl his second over and got the wickets of Maddinson (2) and Wells (0) to complete a hat-trick. With that, he also became the first bowler to have completed a hat-trick in BBL 2023. Renegades, as a result, had lost four wickets for just 9 runs on the board.
Andre Russell then played a game-changing knock of 57 runs in 42 balls, a knock which was laced with 2 fours and 6 sixes. He got out in the 15th over but a 19-ball 30 from Akeal Hosein meant the Renegades chased down the score with 4 balls remaining in the end.
