After a dismal IPL 2022 season, the Mumbai Indians are gearing up for the next edition with a three-week experience tour of England in July for their uncapped Indian players.
Apart from practising at various cutting-edge facilities, the Indian teenagers of Mumbai will play at least 10 T20 matches against premier club sides from across multiple countries.
“Tilak Varma, Kumar Kartikeya, Ramandeep Singh, and Hrithik Shokeen are among the players who will get experience playing against strong T20 club sides under difficult conditions,” an IPL insider told PTI. “Arjun Tendulkar, who is already in the UK, and Dewald Brevis, a South African kid, are also likely to join the touring party.”
The Mumbai support crew, including head coach Mahela Jayawardene, will be in England to monitor the Indian players’ development.
Mumbai, on the other hand, does not require BCCI clearance for this trip unless the squad is playing exhibition games against other franchises or overseas T20 sides.
“This isn’t a commercial excursion where tickets will be sold or the game will be televised on a certain channel or streamed on an app.”
“We do not need to request for authorization from BCCI because the trip will not generate revenue,” MI official said.
Interestingly, no other IPL franchise has ever sent their young players on such an international tour. As a result, the rules and regulations governing this are unclear. However, the same source stated that the squad is organising this tour only for the purpose of the players’ growth.
Probable list of Mumbai Indian players for the UK trip:
