Namibia announce the squad for the T20 World Cup 2022

Gerhard Erasmus will continue to lead the Namibia team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia as Namibia announce their squad. Notably, he led the team to the Super 12s of the 2021 edition of the tournament in UAE. The team has announced their World Cup squad and David Wiese is part of the squad.

The left-arm seamer, Ruben Trumpelmann also made the cut, who, recently, earned a contract with Desert Vipers for the forthcoming International League T20 in the UAE.

Trumbelmann rose to the limelight in the last T20 World Cup, when he claimed three crucial wickets in the very first over against Scotland in Abu Dhabi. Besides, the squad has the likes of Lohan Louwrens, Divan la Cock, and Tangeni Lungameni. All three will be playing their first ever ICC World Cup.

A host of South Africans comprise Namibia’s coaching group, namely Pierre de Bruyn (head coach), Albie Morkel (assistant coach) and Morne Morkel (bowling consultant). It is worth mentioning that all of them were part of Namibia’s impressive World Cup campaign last year.

Former South African all-rounder, David Wiese will be a vital cog in the team. He will be crucial to the team’s fortunes this year as well. For the unversed, Wiese has played in several T20 leagues around the globe such as PSL, IPL and more recently with Northern Superchargers in the Hundred.

Jan Nicol Lofie-Eaton, recently, underwent training with Lahore Qalandars. He also makes the cut. In the opening round of the T20 World Cup, Namibia will be locking horns with Sri Lanka, Netherlands and UAE.
