In a major setback for stalwart Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, the national selectors have recommended and urged the top-order batsman to bat at No. 4 in T20 International matches. The national T20I side is struggling with the current batting order and changes were definitely to be made.
Bangladesh will be flying to New Zealand for a tri-series along with Pakistan as their final assignment before the much anticipated T20 World Cup in Australia that is scheduled to take place in October and November. They will keenly focus to amend their batting order and make resilient changes to fix their order before the marquee event.
Shakib Al Hasan will make a comeback to Bangladesh’s frontline squad after missing the two-match T20I series against the United Arab Emirates. Hasan had given prior commitments to his CPL franchise after which he remained unavailable for selection.
Shakib will likely bat at No. 4 in the New Zealand and Pakistan tri-series. Hasan’s No. 3 position will likely be grabbed by in-form astonishing batsmen Soumya Sarkar or Nazmul Hossain. Meanwhile, Liton Das will continue to bat up the order. It is believed that the team management is happy with Mahidy Hasan’s performance at the top and will likely play him up the order.
Though Shakib has remained a consistent performer at No. 3, the team management wants to reshuffle the batting order and put Shakib at No. 4 to gain a competitive advantage. Shakib has so far played 40 T20I matches at No. 3 and scored 1034 runs at an average of 28.72.
Addressing the media, BCB selection panel member Habibul Bashar said that Shakib is truly an open-minded batsman and has agreed to our decision. Bashar asserted the fact to strengthen Bangladesh’s top order as the middle order tends to remain the same.
