New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson has rejoined the national squad ahead of the Third Test match against England. For the unversed, he was contracted with Covid-19 on the eve of the second Test match. Williamson was ruled out of the Test because of that.

As per recent reports, New Zealand has completed its mandatory quarantine period and is likely to be part of the playing XI for the third Test. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) updated the development on its Twitter handle.

‘Welcome back to captain Kane Williamson who has rejoined the Test tour party after recovering from Covid-19 & completing his isolation. The squad will have a few days off before heading to Leeds on Sunday to prepare for the 3rd Test.’ Blackcaps wrote on its Twitter handle.

In Williamson’s absence, Tom Latham led the New Zealand team in the second Test. Till the end of the fourth day’s play, it looked like the match will result in a draw. However, an unbelievable ton from Jonny Bairstow and top-class innings from Ben Stokes meant England went on to win the Test.

With that win, England claimed the series with one Test left to be played. Earlier today, all-rounder Michael Bracewell, who debuted in the second Test, was sent into a five-day isolation period having contracted the COVID-19 virus.

It is pertinent to note that New Zealand is yet to secure a single win in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle. The final Test match between England and New Zealand will take place at Headingly Leads from 23rd June to 27th June 2022. It will be interesting to see what changes New Zealand make in their playing for the final Test match.
