New Zealand vs South Africa, First Test: New Zealand put in a dominant performance on the first day of the first Test against South Africa on Wednesday. The Blackcaps bundled out South Africa for just 95 runs in the first innings. Matt Henry ran through South Africa’s batting unit as he picked seven wickets for just 23 runs in 15 overs. Besides, Southee, Jamieson, and Wagner picked one wicket each.
None of the batsmen in the South Africa batting unit impress with the bat. Dean Elgar got out after scoring just 1 run off 9 deliveries, while the likes of Markram (15), Rassie van der Dussen (8), Buvuma (7), and Verreynne (18) also failed to hit the strap.
In response to that, New Zealand is 116 for 3 after 39 overs at stumps on day 1 of the Test match. Tom Latham, the skipper got bowled out after scoring 15 runs in just 61 deliveries, while Will Young could only manage 8 runs in 32 deliveries. Devon Conway looked good but failed to convert the start into a big score. He got out after scoring 36 runs in 76 deliveries, a knock that had 3 fours.
New Zealand lost three wickets for 111 runs after 36.1 overs. Henry Nicholls and Neil Wagner are currently at the crease. Henry Nicholls is unbeaten on 37 off 54 balls, while Niel Wagner has managed to score 2 off 12 deliveries. Duanne Olivier is the pick of the bowlers for South Africa. He has managed to pick 2 wickets for 36 runs in 8 overs, while Marco Jansen has one wicket for 11 runs in 8 overs.
After taking a lead of 21 runs the host would be elated by their performance & will look ahead to continue their decent form on Day 2. On the other hand, Proteas batters would aim to scalp some quick wicket on Day 2 to restrict Blackcaps from taking a massive lead. In whose favor the match will head on Day 2 in a wait & watch thing!
