New Zealand vs West Indies: The T20I series between West Indies and New Zealand is done and dusted and the focus now moves to the ODI series. The first One-Day International is slated to be played on 17th August 2022 at Kensignton Oval in Barbados. West Indies lost the T20I series by a 2-1 margin and would be looking to come back stronger in the ODI series.
However, their current form in the one-day internationals has been nothing short of terrible. In their last ODI series against India, they were thrashed 3-0. Before that, Bangladesh registered a 3-0 whitewash against Nicholas Pooran and Co. Furthermore, Pakistan too defeated them in the ODI series in June by a 3-0 margin.
West Indies’ performance in the ODI isn’t too great but they would look to take confidence from the win in the last T20 international. Nicholas Pooran and Co. would be keen to continue the winning momentum. The likes of Brandon King and Nicholas Pooran will be the ones to watch out for.
King has been in ominous form and he will be responsible to help West Indies get a good start to the innings. The team would also be wanting Nicholas Pooran to take responsibility and play match-winning knocks.
With the ball, Alzarri Joseph and Jayden Seales will continue to shoulder the fast bowling duties, while Akeal Hosein should lead the spin department.
New Zealand, on the other hand, is in brilliant form, as far as the ODIs are concerned. In the recent past, they have won the ODI series against Scotland, Ireland and Netherlands. They haven’t lost a single game against any of these oppositions. Skipper Kane Williamson will be making his comeback in the ODI format. It will be interesting to see how he performs with the bat. The likes of Martin Guptill, Daryl Mitchell, and Devon Conway, to name a few, will accompany him in the batting department.
