New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on Friday welcomed the ICC’s decision to postpone the Women’s Cricket World Cup next year. Although, the board also said that it could have hosted the next year’s Women’s event but also respects the ICC’s decision.

The ICC governing council conducted a meeting on Friday and decided to postpone the Women’s Cricket Cup next in New Zealand next year. And one of the reasons behind this is, no team has played since March and there would be lack of time for conducting the qualifying tournament to decide the final three teams.

“This is obviously a disappointing decision for cricket players and fans around the world. The organising committee in New Zealand has been working with the government to ensure a safe and enjoyable tournament could be played.” New Zealand Sports Minister Grant Robertson said.

“We could have done it in 2021, but now we will look to 2022. As a government, we have reiterated our commitment to supporting the tournament.” he added.

Even the local organizers in New Zealand have also urged the ICC to postpone the event due to the health and safety concerns and also cited that the teams directly playing in the World Cup without any playing experience.
