Shreyas Iyer has demonstrated his dance abilities not just through social media streams but also on the field of play, according to Aakash Chopra.
In the two innings of the Bengaluru Test against Sri Lanka, Iyer scored 92 and 67 runs. For his adventurous batting, he was rightly named Player of the Match.
Aakash Chopra selected the top performances for Team India in the Test series against Sri Lanka in a video posted on his YouTube channel. In regards to Shreyas Iyer, he said:
“The confidence he (Shreyas) showed, his feet dance and not only for the reels but also on the pitch. He doesn’t play the sweep but despite that, he scores runs on a turning pitch. He hits sixes while standing in his position, he played knocks that win your heart. The dominance with which he played was really admirable.”
Iyer could like the Sri Lankan squad to play in the forthcoming IPL 2022, according to the cricketer-turned-commentator. Chopra said the following:
“It was a continuation for him from the T20s. I even asked him after the match if we should put the Sri Lankan team in the IPL because you hit them so much, so why not take them along with you, you can play them as well.”
Shreyas Iyer had a fantastic run against the Sri Lankan visitors. In the T20Is, he was named Player of the Series. He dominated the Sri Lankan attack in the pink-ball Test, after not making a significant impact in the Mohali Test. Chopra went on to heap praises for the batter for bouncing back to his incredible form.
“He was absolutely brilliant. He got injured and after that, the form was also going fifty-fifty. Then you lost the captaincy as well, wasn’t scoring that many runs, did not get a place in the team for the World Cup but after that, once the story changes, this boy doesn’t take the name of stopping.”
When the top four batsmen of the team failed to make an impact on the first day of the second Test against Sri Lanka, Iyer stepped in to play a heroic role in taking the team to a defendable total. India had lost five wickets for 126 runs and Sri Lanka, at that stage, looked to quickly bundle India out. However, Shreyas Iyer, who was still at the crease, had other ideas.
He held firm at one end and sent all the bad balls to the boundary rope. Iyer got some support from the tailenders and helped the team reach a competitive score of 252 runs on a turning track. Shreyas Iyer played a sensational knock of 92 runs in 98 balls, including 10 fours and 4 sixes.
