Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) would be without their spearhead bowler, Australian leg spinner Adam Zampa, as the bowler is getting hitched. Consequently, he would be missing the initial days of RCB’s training camp as well.
RCB’s Director of Cricket Mike Hesson broke the news via a video posted by RCB on Twitter. Informing about Zampa’s unavailability, Hesson said that RCB would not have its full contingent of overseas players for the first game. He added that the 28-year old would join the squad after getting married.
“We won’t have our full contingent of overseas players available for the first game. Adam Zampa is getting married. That is an important time for him, and it is something that as a franchise we are aware of, and we respect,” Hesson said in the video while confirming the news.
“We hope he has a great time. So when he joins us, he is going to be fresh and make a massive contribution for the rest of the tournament.”
RCB will hit the camp on March 29 to prepare for the tournament opener scheduled for April 9 between RCB and Defending Champions Mumbai Indians at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
Hesson also gave an update about AB de Villiers and Finn Allen and said that the South African all-rounder would be joining the squad on March 28, while Allen will join the team after completing New Zealand’s T20I venture in April 1.
“We have got players arriving all the way through April 1. Finn Allen will be playing in T20I in New Zealand on April 1 and then he will come the day after… ABD arrives on 28,” Hesson said.
“We have got eight good overseas options, we are making sure that we are firing and functioning for the entire tournament not just trying to push guys for the first game.”
