The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has named a 19-player squad for their upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe, that would be led by Asghar Afghan.
The squad has called upon eight uncapped players in the squad in the Test format. The Test debutants include Abdul Malik, Munir Ahmad Kakar, Shahidullah Kamal, Bahir Shah Mohboob, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Sayed Ahmed Shirzad, Saleem Safi and Zia Ur Rahman Akbar.
“They have been performing really well in domestic cricket so we felt that we should give them an opportunity in Test. The door is open for best available players in any format,” Cricbuzz quoted ACB director of cricket Raees Ahmadzai as saying.
Spinner Rashid Khan has also been named in the squad, who is currently preparing for the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Rashid Khan would be representing Lahore Qalanders in the league.
”He is expected to be available for only a couple of games in PSL before flying to the UAE ahead of the first Test,” an ACB official said on Rashid’s availability.
The Test series between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe will commence from March 6. The second Test will be played from March 10 to March 14. Both the matches would be held at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
