As MS Dhoni stepped down as captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), his former Indian teammate Virat Kohli shared a touching message about him. Kohli and the former CSK captain are well-known and have once congratulated a wicket-taker for capturing the title while leading CSK to four Indian Premier League (IPL) titles.
“The captain’s time is famous for his yellow jump. Fans of the chapter will never forget us,” Kohli wrote in his tweet. “Always be respectful,” he added, with a red and yellow heart emoji.
CSK announced today that Dhoni will hand over star player Ravindra Jadeja, two days before the defending champions play the Kolkata Knight Riders at the start of the season.
Meanwhile, Kohli has also stepped down as captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of next season, with former CSK star Faf du Plessis now captain the team.
Dhoni has been captain of CSK since the launch of the IPL in 2008, which resulted in them winning four IPL titles in 12 years. He also captained and won two Champions League T20 titles.
In his last year as CSK captain, he led the team to victory in the IPL title as they beat KKR in the final to secure their fourth trophy.
Prior to Jadeja, CSK has been led by Suresh Raina aside from Dhoni, making Jadeja the third player to serve as the captain of CSK. Jadeja has been representing the team since 2012. It would be his first-ever experience in captaincy in senior cricket as he has only had the opportunity to lead a team once during his U-19 years in 2007.
Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni are both retained by CSK before IPL 2022, along with Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
