The Ajman T20 Cup, which aims to provide a chance for local cricketers to demonstrate their abilities, is about to get underway. The programme was started under the patronage of HH Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi of Ajman and designed by Shaji Ul Mulk, the creator of Abu Dhabi T10, and the Ajman Cricket Council to acquire rising talent and magnify the cricketing environment in the UAE.
The matches will take place at the Malik Cricket Stadium in Ajman from March 13 to 22.
The performance of the players will be continuously watched and evaluated. Those who qualify will be evaluated by the Player Management Council, allowing the top players the opportunity to further their cricket careers and compete against national-level seniors.
“The UAE has seen tremendous growth in the cricket community; the Ajman Cricket Council is working proactively to nurture the region’s raw talent and fortify them for the international stage. We wish to create an infrastructure where players can healthily challenge themselves, reach their full potential, and leverage Abu Dhabi T10’s extensive platform,” said Shaji Ul Mulk in a statement.
Parvez Khan, Ajman Cricket Council Director added, “This tournament is designed to facilitate healthy competition and help scout UAE-based talent and dedicated cricketers of all nationalities.”
Adnan Ul Mulk, a former local player, praised competitions like this for providing a platform for UAE talent, saying he was looking forward to seeing the players excel on this stage.
Mulk also said that preparations are in the works to revive a UAE-South Asian competition.
Domestic league players will have the chance to play among international talent from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Mohammad Azharuddin, the legendary Indian cricketer, was present at the press conference where the Ajman Cup details were revealed and expressed his delight.
“This is the first domestic tournament with an international format and therefore, extremely likely to have an impact. From the formal draft to choose players to live streaming matches across the world, the Ajman T20 Cup has the potential to put Ajman on the cricketing map,” he said.
A draught to choose players for the Deccan Gladiators, Northern Warriors, Maratha Arabians, Bangla Tigers, Delhi Bulls, and Ajman Heroes, the latter of which is a council-managed team, was also conducted today. Sheraz Ahmed, Usman Khan, Umair Ali Khan, Sultan Ahmed, and Shoaib Malik’s younger brother Adeel Malik are just a few of the exciting local cricketers that will be competing for the honour.
In addition, the 6th season of Abu Dhabi T10 is in the works, with the same structure and rules, and will be hosted by Shaji Ul Mulk later this year.
The AjmanT20 Cricket Cup was announced earlier this week by T-Ten Sports Management, the producers of the Abu DhabiT10 League, and the Ajman Cricket Council, which is an associated organisation of the Emirates Cricket Board.
The event will be modelled after the Abu Dhabi T10 League, but with a T20 format.
The event will also serve as a talent scouting opportunity for Abu Dhabi T10. The six teams playing will be the Delhi Bulls, Deccan Gladiators, Northern Warriors, Bangla Tigers, Maratha Arabians, and Ajman Heroes, with the same names and logos as the Abu Dhabi T10 League. The Malek Cricket Stadium will host the tournament from March 13th to March 22nd, 2022.
