An outstanding knock from Hayden Kerr has taken Sydney Sixers to the final of the BBL 2021-22 tournament. Adelaide Strikers fought hard with both bat and ball but couldn’t reach over the line in the end.
They made a miserable start with the bat after getting reduced to 21 for 3 inside the first four overs. Alex Carey (1 off 2), Short (6 off 5), and Head (3 off 5) all got out on single-digit scores.
However, Ian Cockbain then played a fine 48-run knock off 42 balls, while Wells scored an unbeaten 62-run knock in 47 deliveries. Renshaw also played an unbeaten 36-run knock in 20 deliveries to help the team reach a competitive score of 167 runs in the first innings.
Both Sean Abbott and O’Keefe were brilliant with the ball. The former gave just 27 runs in 4 overs while picking 3 wickets. Steve O’Keefe picked 1 for 21 in 4 overs.
Sydney Sixers, on the other hand, lost Justin Avendano (1 off 8) early in the innings. They kept losing wickets at short intervals but Hayden Kerr stood firm at one end. He remained unbeaten right till the end of the innings.
Hayden Kerr played a sensational 98-run knock in 58 balls, including 10 fours and 2 sixes. He found good support from Sean Abbott, who later played an outstanding 41-run knock in 20 balls. Needing 2 runs off the final ball, Hayden Kerr hit the winning shot to take the team over the line.
For Adelaide Strikers, both Harry Conway and Henry Thornton picked two wickets each but gave away a lot of runs. Peter Siddle, though, bowled well for his 1 for 28 in his 4 overs but his effort went in vain.
Sydney Sixers will play the final of the BBL 2021-2022 against Perth Scorchers on Friday in Melbourne.
Brief Scores: Sydney Sixers 6 for 170 (Kerr 98*, Abbott 41, Conway 2-37) beat Adelaide Strikers 4 for 167 (Wells 62*, Cockbain 48, Abbott 3-27) by four wickets
