West Indies right-arm off-break bowler Anisa Mohammad has returned to the 13-member women’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Pakistan starting on June 30. On Friday, West Indies Cricket announced the squads for the Women’s Senior and ‘A’ Team squads for the T20 International (T20I) series against Pakistan Women.
Anisa Mohammad had opted out of the five-match T20I series tour of England last year citing ‘COVID-19-related concerns’ for her decision.
Stafanie Taylor will be captaining the T20I squad. Left-handed batter Kycia Knight and her sister, Kyshona Knight, have made their return to the squad. Players like Kaysia Schultz, Lee-Ann Kirby, Shemaine Campbelle, Afy Fletcher, Cherry Ann Fraser, Shabika Gajnabi and Sheneta Grimmond did not make the cut.
Experienced wicket-keeper batter Reniece Boyce has been named to lead the ‘A’ team. West Indies Women’s ‘A’ Team will be playing their first ever three-match T20I Series on the same days.
The T20I series between the national teams of West Indies and Pakistan will take place from June 30 to July 3 at Antigua’s Coolidge Cricket Ground and Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
Lead Selector for Women’s cricket, Ann Browne-John said, “This series against Pakistan has come at an opportune time because the West Indies players have not been able to face international opponents since September 2020. It’s exciting that not only will the senior team be in action, but for the very first time, a West Indies ‘A’ Team will have the opportunity to compete against international opposition.
“As we prepare for the upcoming five CG Insurance ODI match series, these three T20Is will enable the senior team to ease themselves back into the international arena. The ‘A’ team matches are an excellent chance for some of the younger players who have not been able to find a place in the senior team to show their skills.”
It will be the team’s first game since their England tour last year.
