Australia’s one of the brightest prospects, Annabel Sutherland has been ruled out of the upcoming tour to New Zealand. Australian women’s team are due to play 3 T20s followed by as many ODIs against New Zealand, starting from 28th March 2021. Young all-rounder, Annabel Sutherland, who was earlier part of the squad, has been ruled out owing to a stress fracture in her right leg.
“It’s unfortunate that Annabel has been ruled out of the series, but our medical team were able to identify the issue early which allows her to go away and get herself right with a busy period coming up,” Cricket Australia Female High-Performance Manager and National Selector Shawn Flegler said.
Off-spinner, Molly Strano has replaced the all-rounder in the squad. With 4 strong front-line spinners already in the squad, it would be difficult for Strano to secure a place in the eleven. The 28-year-old Australian cricketer has played 7 T20s for Australia but is yet to make her debut in ODIs.
“Molly comes into the squad off the back of strong performances for Victoria in the WNCL,” Flegler continued.
“We’ve got plenty of pace-bowling options in the squad, so Molly gives us another spin option should we need it.”
